MANILA, Philippines — The Mitsubishi Mirage and the Mazda BT-50 4×4 pick-up truck were hailed as the Car of the Year (COTY) and Truck of the year for the year 2012 -2013.
During the Manila International Auto Show (MIAS) Thursday evening, the Car Awards Group Incorporated (CAGI) announced that the two bested the 81 vehicles that were entered in the 19 different categories and in the Car of the Year-Philippines
CAGI president Ferman Lao noted the difficulty in picking who would win the coveted title in the category, including those for the special awards.
“The 2012-2013 Car of the Year-Philippines season was a tough one,” Lao said. “It wasn’t just in terms of the sheer number of cars that had to be tested, but the continually increasing improvements, value and competitiveness each new model brought to their respective classes.”
The two vehicles received the highest scores by members of media who cover the automotive beat.
The scores were given after vehicles were subjected to tests, one held in Eton Centris, and the other at the Clark International Speedway.
In behalf of the group, Lao congratulated Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corp. And Berjaya Auto Philippines Inc. for receiving the titles and for the 19 other winners under different categories, saying that those are the best cars that one can buy right now.
MMPC recently celebrated its 50 years in the Philippines while Malaysian-run Berjaya Auto Philippines just acquired Mazda dealership.
